These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Insect ID: AI Bug Identifier iOS application ("the App"). By downloading or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. The service
Insect ID uses artificial intelligence to identify insects, spiders, and related creatures from photos you provide, and to answer follow-up questions in a chat interface. Results include species information and an indicative safety profile.
2. Educational use only — no professional advice
Identifications are generated by AI and are provided for educational and informational purposes only. While we strive for accuracy, AI results can be wrong or incomplete. The App is not a substitute for professional advice:
- Medical: for any bite, sting, allergic reaction, or health concern, consult a doctor or emergency services immediately. Never rely on the App to decide whether a bite requires treatment.
- Pest control: for suspected infestations (bed bugs, carpenter ants, termites, etc.), consult a licensed pest-control professional.
- Safety: never handle an unknown insect or spider based on an App result indicating it is harmless.
3. Free tier and subscriptions
- The App is free to download and includes 2 free AI identifications per day.
- Optional auto-renewable subscriptions (monthly or yearly) unlock unlimited identifications.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions anytime in your App Store account settings. Refunds are handled by Apple under App Store policies.
- Prices may vary by region and may change; any change applies to subsequent billing periods after notice.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the App, including: attempting to reverse-engineer or bypass usage limits or authentication; submitting unlawful, harmful, or infringing content; using the service in any automated or bulk manner; or reselling access to the identification service.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of the photos you submit. You grant us a limited license to process your photos and messages for the purpose of providing and improving the identification service, as described in our Privacy Policy. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit any photo you upload.
6. Intellectual property
The App, its design, branding, and content (excluding your photos) are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, subject to Apple's App Store terms.
7. Disclaimer of warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy of identifications, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including injury, property damage, or losses arising from reliance on an identification result — and our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App in the twelve months preceding the claim.
9. Changes to the service and Terms
We may modify or discontinue features at any time, and may update these Terms. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in your country of residence, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer-protection law provides otherwise.
